March 04, 2026On December 2, market research firm Counterpoint Research noted in a report that global shipments of foldable smartphones grew by 14% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2025, marking the highest quarterly shipment volume ever recorded for this product category. Driven by increasing adoption within the premium segment, the share of foldable smartphones within the total global smartphone market shipments reached 2.5% during this quarter.

In terms of manufacturer performance, this quarter's results further underscored the immense influence of Samsung's Galaxy Z series—particularly the Z Fold7. With its slimmer profile, lighter hardware, more durable hinge, and minimized crease visibility, the device enhanced its premium appeal and drove sales growth that exceeded expectations. Huawei's Mate series maintained steady growth momentum, while Honor and vivo continued to make significant contributions through their updated foldable product lines. Thanks to highly competitive pricing, strong channel partnerships, and positive user feedback regarding product experience, Motorola emerged as one of the top-performing manufacturers globally, successfully expanding its user base within the foldable market.
The firm stated that the foldable smartphone market is projected to achieve double-digit year-over-year growth by the end of 2025 and maintain a steady upward trajectory, as premium users increasingly gravitate toward devices with larger screens while simultaneously seeking enhanced durability. In 2026, the market is expected to enter an even more pronounced phase of expansion. Key growth drivers will include improved durability, thinner and lighter form factors, optimized hinge and display panel structures, and richer AI-driven software experiences. (Proofread by Li Mei)
